Woman sells illegal lottery to support mother
Court Reports
An unemployed woman who admitted to selling illegal lottery tickets to take care of her mother was fined $13,000 when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday.
Debby Brown pleaded not guilty to selling illegal lottery tickets and guilty to illegal bookmaking and unlawful gaming.
The court was told that $21,905 was taken from Brown when she was arrested.
Prior to handing down the sentence Parish Judge Simone Wolfe-Reece asked Brown if she had anything to say before she imposed the sentence.
“I was not working and I have my mother to take care of,” Brown said.
Brown was subsequently fined $8,000 for unlawful gaming and $5,000 for illegal bookmaking. The charge of selling illegal lottery tickets was withdrawn.
