Athletic gift for Aberdeen High
The Aberdeen High School got some needed track and field spikes on November 17, courtesy of former student and board member Anthony Foster.
Foster, who attended the upgraded institution when it was an all-age school, visited the institution to make the presentation during devotion.
Sixteen track and field spikes and track shoes were handed over to Ariel Robinson, one of two students who ran at Champs in 2017.
Principal Prim Lewis, who witnessed the handing over, thanked Foster for the great gesture.
She added that the spikes are very welcome for the school’s track and field team.
“I really appreciate this great start to the season, where we know already that we don’t have to worry about shoes,” she said while hailing Foster as someone who continues to contribute to the school’s development.
The school took two athletes to their first ever Champs in 2017 and, according to coach Kwamane Ennis, they are expecting the number of students to be increased to at least eight in 2018.
“The spikes will be of great benefit to our school, as a lot of our athletes are without,” Ennis said.
He added: “I know these students will benefit greatly as they can now participate in the track meet knowing well they have on the proper footwear.”
Foster said it was a pleasure to be able to give back to the institution where he spent seven and a half years.
He encouraged the students to continue strive for excellence while calling on other past students to play a supporting role.
“I am really honoured to be able to hand over these track and field spikes to a school that is in need,” said Foster, who remembered Jadau Burke taking top honours in the school’s first-ever outing at Western Champs two years ago.
Foster promised more goodies for the team before the official start of the track and field season.
