Past students donate commercial appliances to Jose Marti High
The 1988 graduating class recently brought joy to José Martí Technical High School with a donation of appliances that will enhance the curriculum of the Home Economics Department.
The appliances — a commercial refrigerator, commercial freezer and commercial gas stove — were accepted by Principal Dr Austin Wright and head of the Home Economics Department Mrs Henry-Wilson during the morning devotional exercise, the group said in a news release.
“We are uniquely the last set of boarding students to have entered and graduated from this magnificent work and study institution,” the group said in the news release.
“José Martí Technical High School has been our foundation, security and second home. It’s an honour and privilege to say thanks and to contribute to the future of our beloved school. We are sure that these small gifts will change lives and inspire others to follow in our footsteps. We find it very important to reinvest in what has yielded the best return on our investment,” the group added.
The group was represented by Collette Johnson, Carlos Johnson, Daniel Dixon, Dean Nevins, Don Rhamdeow, Everton Garrick, Fernando Spence, Howard Taylor May Bucknor, Normalyn Bell, Richard Berry and Sophia Smith. Kevin Mattis, who organised the donation, was not present.
“Giving back to the institution that invested vast resources in us is critical for success and vital for sustainment. The school can be assured that this will not be the last presentation, as we are dedicated to re-establishing that maternal-like relationship with our beloved José Martí Technical High School,” the release said.
Currently, the school’s population is approximately 2,210 students.
