At the crux of the matter is the poor upbringing of windscreen wipers
Dear Editor,
Juliet Cuthbert should not be attacked for condemning a windscreen wiper who left dirty water on her vehicle because she refused his services.
The average windscreen wiper is disrespectful and feels entitled to the resources of others. Throughout history, destitute individuals have sought to uplift themselves through hard work or the acquisition of academic qualifications, and windscreen wipers can do the same.
Some will constantly argue that little opportunities exist for young people, but the reality is that there are more opportunities now than 50 years ago. Windscreen wipers and people of their ilk seem to feel it is unfair that others are successful and they are poor. Such idiotic views ought to be dismissed.
Instead of cursing Juliet Cuthbert, her detractors should advise irresponsible citizens to refrain from having children they cannot afford. When ill-equipped individuals do not become parents then the society will not have to deal with poorly socialised people who think the world owes them a living.
At the crux of the matter is that the poor upbringing of windscreen wipers is manifested in their unsavoury conduct and abuse of women who refuse to engage them. Individuals accusing Cuthbert of elitism are not defending the poor, but rather honouring indiscipline.
Well-thinking Jamaicans must not allow the fear of being called elitist to prevent them from exercising wise judgement. We will not improve Jamaica by kowtowing to indiscipline. Further, it is a real disgrace that so many young men will prefer to work as “loadermen” or a windscreen wiper for a $100 than to look for jobs. The ubiquity of loadermen and windscreen wipers in the Corporate Area is a disgrace and indicates the State’s inability to prevent lawlessness.
Unlike others, this writer does not see such individuals as honest hustlers, but acknowledges their behaviour as a form of public nuisance. It is time for politicians to speak the truth and hold our people to a higher standard.
