New year, high hopes
Dear Editor,
There is no question that many of us were happy to bid farewell to the past year, as it was another bloody year for Jamaicans.
The year 2017 was a year which left many of us shocked, saddened, and traumatised from rising gang violence and spiralling crime rate, especially murder.
The dawn of a new year is a good time for all of us to carefully evaluate the time gone by, and to look at the changes that 2017 brought to us.
As we welcome 2018 with anticipation, we hope that our Government will continue to work towards restoring our socio-economic stability and maintain the difficult fight against crime and corruption in our country.
The new year also gives us the chance to try to make the wrongs right. Therefore, as we embrace the new year, let us look at some of the choices we have made in the past and forgive those who have wronged us. Instead of killing one another, let us learn to compromise and resolve our differences peacefully. Let us also take this opportunity to take stock of our accomplishments and failures of the past and make the necessary changes to meet our intended goals.
I pray for peace and unity for all as we ring in the new year.
Happy New Year!
