MEET THE SUPREMES: Peta-Gaye Sutherland
Get to know more about your favourite ladies with our new feature series ‘Meet the Supremes’, which takes a closer look at the lives of our Supreme talent team both on and off duty.
Draw Talent, Peta-Gaye Sutherland, has been at Supreme Ventures for almost eight years, starting in promotions and ending up on the Draw Team, with a few stints with the Odyssey and Acropolis gaming lounges.
What was your first draw like?
On air if you were watching it you would think it was smooth, but my heart was hammering inside because I was worried about saying the right number and not tripping at all, because I am a very clumsy person when I’m in heels. But it went OK. My voice was a little shaky and I held onto the mic for dear life. The first Cash Pot number that played was Baby (34), and the weeks following that it played a lot while I was doing the draw, so that became the number they associated with me.
What do you like about your job?
I love the people that I work with, they make me very comfortable.
Name one thing about the draw that most people would not know.
That we do not know which numbers will be selected; it is pure random selection. That is the question I get asked the most.
Do people stop you on the road?
I get stopped on the road all the time. “Oh, is you do Cash Pot? So why you never call my number?” The strangest encounter I had was once when I was walking on the road and a man said, “This is the Cash Pot girl!” and pulled out a phone and took a picture — no hello, no questions asked.
Where are you from?
Kingston. My mother is from Hanover, so when I was a child I thought I was from Hanover too because my first set of memories is being on the beach. I thought we lived on the beach, but in fact we just went there every summer, but to me that is where I lived.
Which high school did you attend?
I went to Campion College.
What’s your favourite food?
Hawaiian pizza.
What’s your favourite colour?
I don’t really have a favourite colour, because this month I might really like red and next month I might really like blue.
What is your favourite hobby?
I really like to read novels, I like poetry and I like to watch movies. My favourite movie is Constantine, I’ve watched it a hundred times. As for books, I like John Grisham and Stephen King.
After Campion, did you go to university?
I’m actually at university now; my course is biotechnology. I’m used to being in a lab, in my lab coat and my goggles, looking very different. I always liked the sciences and I’ve always been good at the sciences. I plan to upgrade it to a Master’s and probably do nanotechnology and go for a doctorate as well.
What’s your favourite reggae song?
Gave You Everything by Garnett Silk
If you were to get rid of one challenge that Jamaica faces, which one would it be?
Crime, for sure.
