Police Commissioner Quallo could be out, say sources
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police Commissioner George Quallo could be leaving the job, OBSERVER ONLINE has been reliably informed.
According to sources in the National Security Ministry, Commissioner Quallo was told that it was time for him to leave during his meeting this morning with National Security Minister Robert Montague.
The commissioner left that meeting and is now meeting with the Police Service Commission, the oversight parliamentary body of the police force.
Quallo turns 60 in August this year and would have gone on retirement at that time.
It is not yet clear who will be appointed to act as commissioner if Quallo resigns as Deputy Commissioner Novelette Grant, who was considered for the job and actually acted for 90 days after Carl Williams opted to go on early retirement last January, is going on departmental leave on Friday prior to pre-retirement leave.
Grant is scheduled to retire close to August.
