Heavy rains leave residents in Thicketts, St Ann marooned
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Residents in Thicketts, Discovery Bay, St Ann are marooned as the main road to their community has been flooded.
Councillor for the Dry Harbour Division Carlton Ricketts said people cannot go in or out of the community because of flooding in the Home Castle area leading into the community.
Ricketts said the area always floods whenever it rains heavily; however, he said the level of flooding on Monday was not experienced before.
“It’s the first it has ever been like this,” Ricketts said, stating that a motor vehicle was almost completely submerged in the water.
Ricketts said he has been bringing that area to the attention of the National Works Agency for some time.
Residents in Standfast, Brown’s Town, a part of the Dry Harbour division, also experienced flooding on Monday.
“It is the first they have seen the water like this, we have to go down there and help persons out of their homes,” Ricketts said.
He said roads in the division were scoured by heavy rains between Sunday night and Monday morning resulting in extensive damage to many of which were battered by rains just two weeks ago.
