AFTER recently signing a soundtrack deal with US-based D Street Pictures, Bugle could have started his new year with a grand celebration. Instead, the singjay spent the first days of the year driving around Corporate Area with his friends feeding the less fortunate.

“Mi start out mi new year by not getting excited about the movie soundtrack deal. Mi cook and feed people, which is something mi a go try see if mi can do it twice a month. I think the next one will be on my birthday on January 30. So instead of getting gifts for my birthday, me waan give back to the less fortunate people. That’s the mission me deh pon now,” Bugle told the Jamaica Observer at the launch of the Your View Awards (YVAs) held at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Thursday.

Bugle’s deal with D Street Pictures and will see him providing soundtracks for their films for the next five years, his first film being Mango Girl. The film is based on the book of the same name by motivational speaker Dr Ava Brown.

Bugle said he plans to start his own charity organisation.

“Mi cyaa wait pon paper work and charities fi be official and foundations to be registered before mi feed people. It’s not like they are getting food while waiting on you, so mi just a do weh mi can do,” he said.

“Is the same set a people weh hungry everyday. Mi cook the food at mi studio in Havendale. Not necessarily ital, because ah no everything weh mi eat other people eat. So on the way to ‘town or Half-Way-Tree or Spanish Town or Portmore, anywhere we see people weh we know seh need the food, we stop and feed dem,” he said.

Bugle received a nomination for Best Album of the Year at the YVAs for his 15-track album Be Yourself, released last January. The category is the first of its kind at the show.

“It’s always a great feeling to be working and to see it being recognised, no matter what level it is. YVAs is no longer ‘Youth View’, it’s ‘Your View’ which is needed; It’s important. so when the year done, artistes, producers, dancers, film directors can come together and be awarded for weh dem do throughout the year, so that would even push a man fi work harder so him can get something the following year. This can be our MTV or Grammy,” Bugle added.

The YVAs award ceremony will be held on February 24 at the National Indoor Sports Centre in St Andrew.
