Purses and their distribution
The purpose of this article is to try and share with readers how purses are distributed at Caymanas Park by the promoting company.
Before any race is run, there is a designated total purse depending on the type of race. For example, a $180,000 claiming race carries with it a total purse of $600,000, which is shared in assigned percentage amounts by the connections of the first six horses in the race (assuming there are more than six horses in the race) after the breeder’s bonus of NINE PER CENT is deducted.
Following the take out of the nine per cent breeder’s bonus, the remainder of the money is distributed as follows:
FIRST PLACE CONNECTION 60%
This 60% includes payments to owner (s), trainer, jockey and groom.
The same holds for the rest of the placings.
SECOND PLACE CONNECTION 20%
THIRD PLACE CONNECTION 10%
FOURTH PLACE CONNECTION 5%
FIFTH PLACE CONNECTION 3%
SIXTH PLACE CONNECTION 2%
