Weekly Round-up: Oil find in Jamaica… Clarendon’s most wanted killed… Women’s bobsleigh team 19th in South Korea
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica says a geological study recently conducted by CGG Robertson of the United Kingdom has revealed two independent live oil seeps in different sections of Jamaica’s oil blocks which indicated “encouraging” signs for possible petroleum potential on and off-shore Jamaica.
In light of the discovery, Minister of science, energy and technology, Dr Andrew Wheatley on Thursday cautiously welcomed the report and said that the find could increase economic activity and help to solve Jamaica’s growth problems.
On the crime scene, Clarendon’s most wanted fugitive, Nico Walters otherwise called ‘Speckles or Freckles’ was killed during a confrontation with lawmen in the Effortville community of Farm shortly before midday on Monday.
In sport, Jamaica’s first ever female bobsleigh team to compete in a Winter Olympics finished 19th out of 20 participating countries in Pyeongchang, Korea Wednesday.
