Mystic Sound wins Canada Rumble
The members of Toronto sound system Mystic Sound want to take their game to the international level. They are now one step closer to that reality, after winning the Canada Rumble clash on Saturday night.
Held at Empire Banquet Hall in Toronto and promoted by Irish and Chin, Canada
Rumble saw six sound systems competing for a berth at World Clash 2018. The other competitors were King Attarney, Step-A-Choice, Killa Assassin, Klymaxx and Lazer Force.
“This win means a lot to me. I have been playing music for a long time and I really put my life into this. This is big for me, because we have wanted to take the sound to the international stage and moving into World Clash will help us to achieve that objective,” said DJ Tyrone, a member of Mystic.
DJ Tyrone (real name Tyrone Davis) is a 41-year-old selector, originally from Logwood Park in Kingston. The other members are his brother Paul, Fabian Leslie (originally from Mountain View) and DJ Randy (born in Canada to Jamaican parents).
“Mystic sound has been around from in Jamaica. It was started around 1995 by Leroy McPherson. When me and my brother Paul migrated to Canada in 1997 we decided to continue the sound. We have a come a long way from competing in local sound clashes such as Fully Loaded, but we never won anything of this magnitude,” said Tyrone.
Last year, Mystic Sound placed third in Canada Rumble. They advance to the finals of World Clash which is scheduled to be held later this year.
World Clash, the brainchild of veteran New York promoters Irish and Chin, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
“Canada Rumble 2018 was the kick-off to a whole year of Irish and Chin’s search for the champions of tomorrow’s clash arena. The audience got to witness good performances from six sounds that are hungry for fame. Some brought their A game and others were just not prepared for the challenge. Nevertheless, there can only be one champion,” said Garfield “Chin” Bourne.
Other Rumble events planned for this year are Caribbean Rumble (Antigua on March 31), US Rumble (May 5), Japan Rumble (June 9) and United Kingdom and Europe Rumble.
