‘All Saints’ Day’
OSHANE Flemmings and Tasheika Ogeare are winners of the 2018 Saint International Fashion Face of the Caribbean contest, held at Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston on Saturday.
They will join the agency’s all-star cast, which includes top-flight models Brad Allen and Tami Williams.
The event also featured the Jamaica Avant Garde Designer of the Year competition, won by Rico Vassell.
“The thing about Saint, from the feedback we get from the international agencies, is that we’re very selective. So literally, I see close to 25,000 people every single year and for us to select 28 girls and 30 boys from that number, shows how selective we are,” Deiwght Peters, CEO of Saint International, told the Jamaica Observer.
Flemmings was selected from what was supposed to be a top five, but instead was a top six.
“I feel really good. I can’t really take it in right now, but I’m holding it on,” said 23-year-old Flemmings who was persuaded by a friend to enter.
“She told me I had good features, so I gave it a try and here I am,” he said.
The St Catherine-born model has great expectations.
“I plan to go further and push my career… Get to know people to allow me to pursue that plan.”
Eighteen-year-old Ogeare was selected from the top five of audience favourites. She tearfully savoured victory to rousing applause.
“It feels amazing; feels great. I can’t even explain the way I really feel right now,” she said.
Ogeare began modelling five months ago in memory of her late mother.
Vassell beat seven rivals with his Campari-themed piece, Coral Essence, adorned with velvet and straws. He won $50,000.
“The inspiration is from the coral reef, which is an interesting natural resource. So I came up with the idea and executed the idea bringing it to life,” he said.
