#Champs2018: Dwyer defends girls’ C3 1500m title, JC’s Davis cops boys’ title
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Rushana Dwyer of Edwin Allen successfully defended her Class three 1,500m title, while Omarion Davis of Jamaica College copped the boys’ title at the 108th staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championship at the National Stadium.
Davis who took charge on the second lap, relaxed the oace before surging through in the final 90 minutes to get up ahead of favourite Corlando Chambers of St Jago in 4:15.64.
Davis’s time was just outside the record of 4:14.51 set in 2013 by Jauavney James of STETHS.
Chambers was second in 4:16.29, with Port Antonio’s Chadrick Bacchus in third in 4:17.29.
Earlier, Dwyer left it late but had enough in the tank to get by Aneisha Lawrence of Bellefield to win in a time of 4:47.90, as Edwin Allen copped gold and bronze in the event.
Lawrence came home in 4:48.65 ahead of Jessica McLean, who was third in 4:50.05.
