Title-favourites Portmore United whipped Cavalier 3-0 in their Red Stripe Premier League second-leg semi-final match yesterday, and marched into the final for the third-consecutive year.

Jovan East bagged a brace in the fifth and 72nd minutes, while Jermie Lynch was also on the scoresheet in the 48th minute for a most emphatic victory for Portmore.

With the two-way tie level 0-0 from the first leg, Spanish Town Prison Oval was bursting at the seams with crowd support, and they were treated to a most workmanlike performance from the preliminary-round champions in a ruthless display.

East opened the scoring in the fifth minute and settled the nerves of the home team.

The live-wire Lynch then slotted home a Shai Smith cross in the 48th minute that hit the wind out of the visiting Cavalier.

East then put the icing on the cake with the goal of the match — a thumping shot from 30 yards that whistled by the outstretched hands of goalkeeper David Mitchell.

Portmore, who missed out on the title to Montego Bay United in 2016 and Arnett Gardens in 2017, now await the winner of the other semi-final where Waterhouse lead Arnett Gardens 1-0 from the first leg.

Former Reggae Boyz captain Shavar Thomas, now the head coach of Portmore United, was pleased with what his team delivered.

“It is a long season and the players put in tremendous work, and it has prevailed with them being back in the final again,” said Thomas.

“The performance today (yesterday) was tremendous, but it was also playing as a team and working for each other because we know we had the quality — and once we do that we are unstoppable,” he added.

Meanwhile, Cavalier Head Coach Rudolph Speid had high praises for Portmore, while applauding his young team for reaching this far.

“I must say I believed Portmore was the better team today, without a doubt. They played with more intensity and faster than us.

“But on the other hand… the team did exceptionally well to reach here at this stage,” he added.
