FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Mid-season finalists Faulkland FC and Reggae Youths go into Sunday’s first-leg semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation/Charley’s JB Rum Super League at Elleston Wakeland Centre, Falmouth, as favourites to take the lead.

Faulkland FC, the mid-season champions who topped the regular-season points table, face Harmony FC in the second game set to start at 3:30 pm after Reggae Youths take on Wadadah FC in an all St James clash in the opening game set to start at 1:30 pm.

Former champions Wadadah FC are the only team of the four that have gone the full distance before, as Faulkland FC have made it back-to-back semi-finals in their second season in the competition, while Harmony FC, who were promoted back to the Super League this season and Reggae Youths are first-time semi-finalists.

The teams have only faced each other once before this season, with Reggae Youths edging Wadadah FC 1-0 and Harmony FC holding then runaway leaders Faulkland FC 1-1 late in the third round.

Reggae Youths are the team to watch, winning four of their last five games and will have a psychological edge over Wadadah FC who lost three of their last five games.

Wadadah FC’s form coming into the semi-final will give coach Daniel Ricketts some concern as they were beaten at home by Harmony FC, as both teams completed their fixtures on 29 points, same as Hopewell United, but advanced on a better goal difference.

The Oscar Irving-coached Reggae Youths proved they were at least equal to Wadadah FC with a bruising 1-0 win in their third-round encounter, and they will be eager to prove their win was not a fluke.

Shanoy Anderson has scored 10 of Reggae Youths’ 32 goals and will be their leader on Sunday along with O’Carey Spence and the dependable Larnel McFarlane.

Obrien Robinson was the most dependable scorer for Wadadah FC with five goals, with Kemiro James and Tyshan Hill combing for six more.

Playing at Elleston Wakeland will give the Trelawny-based Harmony FC hopes of pulling off the upset over the most dominant team in the competition this season.

After leading the league by a comfortable margin most of the season, Faulkland FC are now showing signs of slowing down late in the third round, scoring just one goal in their last four games, two of them 1-1 draws.

They do have the best defensive record in the league, conceding just seven goals in 16 games, and face a Harmony FC team that scored just 24 goals, the least among the semi-finalists.

Ronaldo McLeish leads the Faulkland FC team with 10 goals, and they have 12 other players on their squad who have scored at least one goal this season.
