Nine vie for Toyota art final
Artwork by nine students representing The Queen’s Prep, St Andrew Prep, Glow Academy, Belair Prep, Hampton High School, William Knibb and Campion College (Kingston) have been selected to be submitted as Jamaica’s entries in the global semi-finals of the 12th Toyota Dream Car Art Contest.
The Toyota Dream Car Art Contest is a global competition held to encourage and inspire creativity in children. This is the third year Toyota Jamaica has participated in the competition with its greatest achievement seen in 2017 when 10-year-old Athalia Clarke became the country’s first-ever finalist. For her efforts she was treated to an all-expense-paid trip to Japan.
“This year we have added a few new elements. Prizes will be awarded to the schools of the top students in each category, and there is also a prize for the school that submits the most entries,” said Tracy-Ann Fletcher, assistant marketing manager of Toyota Jamaica.
The changes were enacted to increase local participation.
Leading the nine having each won 1st places in their age group categories are Adam Grant of Glow Academy, Benjamin Barrett of Belair Prep and Justin McKay of Campion College. The complete list of winners is as follows:
Under 8 years old Category
1st place winner — Adam Grant (Glow Academy)
2nd place winner — Maleah Hall (The Queen’s Prep)
3rd place winner — Matal Hall (The Queen’s Prep)
8-11 years old Category
1st place winner — Benjamin Barrett (Belair Prep)
2nd place winner — Zahra Johnston (St Andrew Prep)
3rd place winner — Paris McKay (St Andrew Prep)
12 – 15 years old Category
1st place winner — Justin McKay (Campion College)
2nd place winner — Indira Hendricks (Hampton High School)
3rd place winner — Ayreonna Grubb (William Knibb)
If any of the nine achieve a top place in their category in the global competition they will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Japan with a parent to attend the Toyota Dream Car Global Awards Ceremony allowing them to experience Japanese culture and Toyota craftsmanship all while getting to know their peers from other countries.
