KINGSTON, Jamaica — The GoFundMe page that has been set up for the family of a seven-year-old Jamaican boy who died on Saturday in an apparent drowning at Sandbanks Provincial Park in Canada, has raised more than CAN$11,000 in 21 hours.

The family had originally set a target of CAN$10,000 to cover the cost of transporting the boy’s body back to Jamaica. At the time of this publication, the figure stood at CAN$11,003.

“Our goal is to assist Sherrie by helping to raise enough funds for her to cover the cost of having Javaughn’s body prepared at a Funeral Home here in Ontario, then transported from there to an Airline and flown to Jamaica. Upon arrival to Jamaica, Sherrie will then have her son’s body conveyed to the Funeral Home chosen by the family to conduct Javaughn’s final resting,” said the post.

Javaughn Black was visiting Canada with his mother and sister and had been attending the beach with family and friends. According to the fundraising page this was his first time travelling outside of Jamaica.

Reports in the Canadian media said that the boy was initially reported missing but was later found in the water unresponsive and without evident vital signs. He was rushed to hospital but could not be revived.
