Vivica Fox puts pen to paper
FOR two years in a row, Mission Neahlis hosted a charity event in support of a much-needed cause.
The event — which doubled as an exclusive book signing by American actress Vivica Fox — took place at the Spanish Court Hotel in New Kingston on Thursday evening.
Proceeds from this year’s staging are slated to go to 20-year-old, wheelchair-bound Shanelle Richards of Parade Gardens in Southside, Kingston, who harbours dreams of representing her country in shot put at the Special Olympics.
Fox, who is the official ambassador for Mission Neahlis, signed personal copies of her book Everyday I’m Hustling. She shared lens time with each person who bought a copy. The actress-cum-author shares strategies for success in business and “been there” lessons in love, buttressed with stories from her early family life all the way through to today. Fox also tells behind-the-scenes tales from some of her biggest movies — such as Uma Thurman’s life-changing advice during Kill Bill and Will Smith’s downtime pep talk on Independence Day. She maps out exactly what it took to come back with a role on the smash hit Empire and her own frisky show on Lifetime, Vivica‘s Black Magic.
American actress Sheryl Lee Ralph was also present at this year’s event.
Founded by Lisa McIntosh-Aris, Mission Neahlis last year focused on gender-based violence and pledged financial assistance to the Women’s Crisis Centre.
