Two implicated in Kingston drug bust return to court Oct 1
TWO men implicated in the seizure of a little more that 4,000 pounds of ganja at a shipping terminal in Kingston in January of this year, are scheduled to return to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on October 17.
Twenty-five-year-old Ravando Allen, of Kingston and 39-year-old Sylvan Brown are both facing charges of possession of, dealing in, transporting and conspiracy to export ganja.
Police reported that about 9:30 am on January 24, security personnel were on duty at one of the ports when they became suspicious of a 40-foot container that was brought to the location.
The police and members of the Contraband Enforcement Team were summoned and 37 bags containing 747 parcels of compressed ganja were allegedly found.
The scene was processed and the illicit drug, which had a weight of 4,083 pounds and an estimated street value of $16.3 million, was subsequently seized.
Both men were arrested and charged in the aftermath of the seizure following police investigation into the matter.
When the matter was mentioned Tuesday, the investigating officer told the court that the scenes of crime report as well as the identification report were outstanding, and consequently an October mention date was fixed.
Both accused men had their bails extended by Parish Judge Maxine Ellis.
Attorney Christopher Townsend is representing Brown, while Attorney Denise Walker is representing Allen.
