Santigold shines on Billboard chart
Since the late 2000s, Santigold has been experimenting with dancehall and reggae. She has done tracks with Dre Skull (known for his work with Popcaan and Vybz Kartel) as well as Diplo of Major Lazer.
The Philadelphia native, who now resides in New York, has topped the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart with her fourth album I Dont Want To: The Gold Fire Sessions. It was released on July 27 via Downtown Records.
The album contains 10 tracks including the collaboration Don’t Blame Me featuring Shenseea. It sold 1,146 copies in its opening week.
Santigold (real name Santi White) had previously charted three titles on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart.
Still on the Billboard Reggae chart, American Christian music writer and singer Benjah enters at number seven with the EP titled PainTings. It sold 323 copies. Released in July 27 on the Jahmen Music Group label, it features five tracks including Yesterday, a collaborative effort with Dre Island.
This is Benjah’s second entry on the chart. He fared better in 2013 with Haze & Reflections: Vanity Fare Remixed which peaked at three.
Hawaii reggae outfit, For Peace Band debuts at number 10 with Always Love, a 13-track effort. This was released on July 27 on Rootfire Cooperative. Some 110 copies were sold in its first week.
Moving up two places to two is 44/876 by Sting and Shaggy, which sold 1,029 copies to bring its tally to 41,394.
Reggae Gold 2018, released by VP Records, moves up three places to number three, selling 964 copies over the past week. This is a major increase from the 137 copies sold the week before.
Last week’s chart-topper Everyday Life, Everyday People by Slightly Stoopid is down to four, selling 610, down from the 2,574 it sold the previous week.
Free Rein by Rebelution falls to number five with 388 copies. Last week it moved 661 copies. To date it has sold 15, 364 copies.
Popcaan’s highly anticipated Forever album falls from two to six in its second week on the chart, selling 328 copies to bring its two week tally to 1,812.
Iration’s self-titled album dips to number eight with 196 copies, while Ziggy Marley’s Rebellion Rises is down to number nine with 196 copies. To date, Marley’s album has sold 7, 292 copies.
Mr Vegas’ Ism debuts at number 15, selling 76 copies.
