Trelawny Women, Real MoBay in 2-2 stalemate
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Real MoBay AFC earned their first point of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/Lascelles Employees and Partners Co-operative Credit Union Women’s League after they came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 result against Trelawny Women’s FC in Zone B action at Elleston Wakeland Centre on Wednesday.
Despite dominating possession for long periods, Real MoBay AFC had to depend on two goals from two former national players, Jodi-Ann McGregor (21st minute) and Elizabeth Vassell (59th), to get on the points table. But they remain firmly rooted at the foot of the Zone B standing.
Carmeisha Smith (ninth minute) and Assieka Brown (39th) scored to give the hosts a first-half lead, but eventually had to settle for a share of the spoils, as they picked up four of their five points at home.
Unbeaten Arnett Gardens are in pole position for the mid-season final spot from the zone as they lead with maximum nine points from three games, while the stalemate hindered Trelawny Women’s chances of overhauling the leaders as they inched up to five points. Olympic Gardens are in third place on four points followed by SC Monarchs and Real MoBay AFC.
After missing two shots at goal from inside the six-yard box, Real MoBay AFC were forced to chase the game after Trelawny Women’s took the lead through Smith fired home from Brown’s cross in the ninth minute.
McGregor pulled Real MoBay AFC level in the 21st minute when she fired past goalkeeper Peatria Campbell from just outside the area.
Brown restored Trelawny Women’s lead in the 39th minute when her shot from well outside the area went through the legs of Real MoBay AFC’s teenaged goalkeeper Bryana Coleman to make it 2-1 at the break.
Real MoBay AFC started the second half as they did in the first half, but this time they capitalised on their goalscoring chances as Vassell side-footed a volley at the far post courtesy of a weighted cross from substitute Frederika Finnikin on the right channel.
