O-Wrap: PM confirms Cabinet changes…Teen girl stabbed to death… St Kitts recruits senior J’can cops

1. Holness confirms Cabinet changes

Prime Minister Andrew Holness this morning confirmed that changes are to be made to the Cabinet following the resignation of Dr Andrew Wheatley as science and technology minister two weeks ago.

2. Teen girl stabbed to death in St Elizabeth

A Clarendon teen was stabbed to death in St Elizabeth last night while she was staying at a friend’s house.

3. Aspiring nurse smuggles cocaine in vagina

An aspiring nurse of Old Harbour, St Catherine, who was caught entering Guyana with almost two pounds of cocaine in her stomach and vagina, yesterday claimed that she smuggled the drugs to pay for her nursing course.

4. NWA to implement $249m island wide patching programme

The National Works Agency (NWA) is preparing to roll out the second phase of a $239-million patching programme targeting major corridors in 10 parishes over the next few weeks.

5. Vigil held at Detroit church for Aretha Franklin

 People are praying for Aretha Franklin in the Detroit church where her father was once a pastor. She was said to be seriously ill.

6. Mentally ill person suspected in vandalism of Corporate Area traffic signals — NWA

 NWA suspects that a person of unsound mind could be vandalising signal cabinets, leaving a number of intersections in the Corporate Area without functioning traffic lights.

7. St Kitts recruits senior officers from Jamaica to enhance police force

In its bid to further strengthen the capacity and capabilities of the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), the Ministry of National Security has recruited two senior level officers from Jamaica to serve in different capacities with the local police force.

8. Holness describes depreciation of J’can dollar as ‘growing pains‘

Prime Minister Andrew Holness this morning described the depreciation of the Jamaican dollar as “growing pains”, indicating that a review of previous instances points to “very poor fundamentals of the economy”.

9. Minor quake felt in St Thomas

A minor earthquake rattled the parish of St Thomas at 11:03 this morning. The epicenter of the 3.3 magnitude quake was near Golden grove in the parish.

10. Gov’t paying down debt, says Holness

Prime Minister Andrew Holness this morning informed that the Government repaid $58 billion in debt last month, while borrowing has also reduced.
