Emily is Miss Universe Jamaica

Miss Universe Jamaica winner has a passion for equal rights

She describes herself as someone who is adventurous, active and loves the rivers and beaches. But newly crowned Miss Universe Jamaica 2018 Emily Maddison has a real passion for equal rights.

“I’m really passionate about equal rights. I hate to see people being disrespected and I love to be the voice for anyone who feels as if they don’t have the voice to speak up about the matter, Maddison shared in an interview with the Jamaica Observer shortly after the pageant’s grand coronation on Friday night.

Maddison continued: “I hope that during my reign I’m able to inspire people to speak up about whatever it is that’s troubling them, and the challenges that they face.”

The 19-year-old, who recently graduated from Campion College, said she entered the pageant for self -onfidence and growth.

“I needed a platform where I could grow and mature, and to also find a passion. And this pageant has made it possible for me to grow in my self -onfidence. It has also made me find out what I want to do in life and what I want to impact people with. I’m really grateful for the experience,” said Maddison.

She was a crowd favourite throughout the pageant. She beat 23 other young ladies for the title and will represent Jamaica at the Miss Universe finals later this year.

She also copped 4 sectional prizes, Best in Swimwear, Social Media, Most Photogenic, and Best in Evening Wear.

Multiple pageant entrant Kadejah Anderson finished in second place and copped the title Miss Grand Jamaica.

Another crowd favourite, Kayla Smith won third place and the title Miss Intercontinental Jamaica. She also won the section prize, People’s Choice.

Completing the top 6 were Juven Dunn in 4th place, Laurie Ann Campbell 5th, and Jessica Jeffrey 6th.

Among those making the top 10 were Daniellee Reddie, Sara Dee Palmer, Raquel Service (who won the Lasco icool swimwear segment and the Exotic Jewellry Child challenge), and Tiffany Rattrey (who won the Altruism award).

Other sectional prizes went to Lanae Gillette – Most Congenial; Annecia Morgan – Runway Star and Denesha East – Most Improved.

The coronation which took place at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel started almost half hour late. There were numerous production glitches.

Entertainment was provided by guest performers Shav-A, daughter of reggae artiste Admiral Tibet, singer Khalia, singer Matthew Blake, and Wayne Marshall.
