BUSY Signal kept good on his promise to assist students in communities of St Ann by hosting a back-to-school treat at the Brown’s Town High School in that parish recently.

Now in its third year, the annual event was spearheaded by the dancehall deejay’s Busy 2020 Helping Hands Foundation.

“I just give whenever I can and continue to do so. I’m not looking for any satisfaction for myself from none of this. I would love for every child to be satisfied. Not me, it’s jus’ the kids are the future. Yeah, wi do weh wi can do fi di children,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

About 400 children were in attendance. They received much-needed school supplies, including school bags, books, pencils, sharpeners, lunch bags, rulers and colouring books.

There were students from Brown’s Town Infant School, Orange Hill Basic School, Lower Buxton All-Age School, Brown’s Town Primary School, Muir House Primary School, and Brown’s Town High School.

Several parents, who were on hand, said they were happy for the entertainer’s gesture as it has relieved them of some of the costs associated with back-to-school.

In addition to backpacks and school supplies, children received complimentary medical check-ups courtesy of the North East Regional Health Authority.

They were also treated to ice cream, cakes and pastries, juices and water as well as games and activities in the Kiddies Village.

Not to be left out, adults were checked for diabetes, hypertension, HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Nichola Gordon, Busy 2020 Helping Hands Foundation manager, said the occasion was a memorable one.

“The day went great because we made an impact in the lives of children who are truly in need. To me, if we had assisted one child it was enough,” said Gordon.

Busy Signal (real name Glendale Gordon) hails from the Buxton community in St Ann.

He is known for the hit songs Tic Toc, Step Out, and Nah Go A Jail Again. Watch Out For This (Bumaye), his collaboration with Major Lazer, was a big hit in Europe.
