None Such as She’s A Maneater
It is not often these days that an A’ Class race carries eight genuine starters, each with their own strong credentials for a share of the purse available.
Such is the case tomorrow in the yearly rendition of the six-furlong (1,200 metres) None Such Sprint.
Of the original lot of 10 provisionally entered for the None Such, as was expected, Will In Charge and Another Bullet were not officially nominated on Wednesday, leaving the other eight to tough it out.
The None Such is the perfect event for the upcoming Sprint Championship, which is scheduled for competition early in November as the distance is the same and some of the main players are present.
Reigning sprint champion, Chace The Great is among the eight starters as he moves into a more intense preparation mode to defend his title.
The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at the chances of the eight None Such starters in the order they will start tomorrow.
MR UNIVERSE: (ch.c – Region Of Merit – Raging Fury) — Comes into this race well prepared and is known for his dashing speed. Mr Universe on Saturday morning delivered a 1:05.2 gallop for five and a half furlongs to give advance notice that he is fit and proper for the None Such. Mr Universe is expected to lead from the off coming from the one draw, and more than likely is going to be engaged in a speed fest with Siempre Bueno. Won recently over six furlongs, but against this lot at six furlongs is another matter. Good run expected, but might be left wanting in the closing section of the race.
PREFECT NEIGHBOUR: (8. dk.b. g – Natural Selection – Desperatehousewife) — Not known to be a sprinter of any worth, Perfect Neighbour is using the None Such as a prep race for the longer, upcoming Governor General Stakes and later the Superstakes in November.
CAMPESINO: (8.b.g – Compadre – Yaella) — Despite the years, Campesino is still strong and resilient and is duly able to take a place at the table of the top horses. Campesino is again finding his best form after a lengthy break, winning on last by coming down the five straight course when beating in the glass Armageddon and Orpheus. Steps up to run in the None Such and is on familiar ground but might not be quite ready to take on the younger set of horses right now. Campesino is versatile and can come from off the pace, which is what he has to do to have a chance tomorrow.
SEEKING MY DREAM: (6.ch.h – Seeking The Glory – Alsafra) — Has been dogged with injury woes during the course of the year and is really struggling to find his best form. Seeking My Dream, the former Derby and Diamond Mile winner, showed glimpses of his true worth on May 5 when he won handsomely over seven and a half furlongs. Since then he has run a second and has been out of the frame twice. Seeking My Dream has been gingerly prepared by his trainer and, for sure, is looking to earn for possible participation in the Diamond Mile later in the year. Seeking My Dream can never be ruled out of any race but, given his present status and condition, he is going to find it difficult to win the None Such.
SIEMPRE BUENO: (6.ch. g – Market Rally – La Reina) — Tried his luck going seven furlongs on July 28 but was outdone by She’s A Maneater and Money Magnet. The six furlongs of the None Such is right up the street of Siempre Bueno, having defeated both Chace The Great and Money Magnet in the Lady Geeta over the same distance on April 22. If Siempre Bueno is to win this race, he simply cannot engage in the anticipated do-or-die speed duel with the younger Mr Universe. Siempre Bueno has to track closely, leaving enough for the final furlong of the race. Has a chance in this one.
CHACE THE GREAT: (5.ch. g – Greatness – Our Miss Ruth) — Slowly but surely, Chace The Great is getting into the right mode to defend his sprint title when Super Day comes around in early November. Chace The Great was not really effective going seven furlongs on last (July 28), finishing way behind She’s A Maneater and company on July 28, but he is treading a familiar path with the None Such coming at the right time to gauge his progress going to the Sprint Championship. Chace The Great has to be off the pace and then make his effort with a furlong and a half to go.
MONEY MAGNET: (4-ch.f – Nuclear Wayne – Jazzy Jet) — Always lurking in the background of the ‘bigger’ horses, the None Such providing a ripe opportunity for this talented filly to truly establish herself. Money Magnet last won on February 17 over six and a half furlongs, beating Chace The Great and Houdini’s Magic. Since then she has played second fiddle to the likes of Siempre Bueno, Will In Charge and She’s A Maneater. For Money Magnet to win the None Such, she has to be right on top of her game, play the waiting game, and strike over the last furlong or so.
SHE’S A MANEATER: (4.b.f – Natural Selection – Ahwhofah) — Took the Eros Trophy in her usual style on July 28, proving once again that she is a filly who can manage almost any distance thrown at her. She’s A Maneater comes into the None Such with new colours on and with the distance not an issue, and despite allowing weight all round, she is going to prove very difficult to deny. Drawn well on the outside of the eight horses, she can move closer and closer before delivering her customary surge in the lane. Worked well on Saturday morning, timing 1:06.1 for five and a half furlongs.
