Second suspect held in murder of St Elizabeth farmer
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — The Manchester police yesterday interviewed a second suspect in connection with the death of a St Elizabeth farmer found dead in the parish on Wednesday.
Delroy Gordon, otherwise called ‘Prick’, who reportedly came into the parish to purchase carrots to take to the Linstead Market in St Catherine, is believed to have been killed and robbed of the cash he took to carry out the transaction.
Police reports are that a passer-by saw his van about 7:40 am crashed into a utility pole in Spice Grove, near Fairfield, Manchester.
On closer inspection, his body appeared to have stab wounds and his throat seemed slashed, the police said.
Persons close to the deceased said that he got a call that the carrots were ready and left out early from Tryall in southern St Elizabeth.
They said for many years the 53-year-old has been making his living as a farmer as well as purchasing produce from other farmers to take to market.
The first suspect was held on Wednesday.
