Weekly Round-up: Ban on plastics, styrofoam… Three Miles by-pass coming… Young pastor killed in church
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The government on Monday announced a ban on the importation, manufacture and distribution of single-use plastic carrier bags, plastic drinking straws and styrofoam containers effective January 1, 2019.
In other news, the Government also on Monday announced that it has decided to fast-track the construction of new 1.4 kilometres, two-lane road at a cost of US$1-million to reduce congestion between Mandela Highway and Marcus Garvey Drive caused by roadwork at the Portia Simpson Miller Square.
On the crime scene, young pastor James Johnson of the popular Church of God of Prophecy on Old Harbour Road in St Catherine was gunned down on Thursday evening while teaching a class at the church.
