Management changes at Jamaica Broilers
After serving Jamaica Broilers Group (JBG) for 35 years, President of Jamaica Operations Conley Salmon has retired.
He was previously responsible for “the strategic leadership and profitability of the group’s Jamaica operations with the primary focus on the production, sales and marketing of the company’s local flagship brands”, according to a corporate profile on JBG’s website.
Joining Jamaica Broilers Group in 1983, Salmon played an integral role in the launch of subsidiary company Aquaculture Jamaica, as well as the group’s implementation of the ocean freight and grain purchasing programme at the local feed mill. Last year he was promoted to the position of president for JBG’s domestic operations, having served as vice-president of marketing, feeds and agricultural supplies since 2001.
A Cornwall College alumnus, Salmon studied at Kansas State University, Cambridge University, and Barry University in areas ranging from commodity trading to ocean freight charter markets.
In the meantime, Dave Fairman has been appointed vice-president for the Best Dressed Chicken division of the JBG.
After joining the group in 1980 as a systems analyst, demonstrating “outstanding leadership capabilities”, Fairman has been a recipient of several promotions, including as project leader, systems project manager, and general manager — Levy Industries Information Systems.
In 2002 he was transferred to Aquaculture Jamaica Ltd and, in 2004, to Content Agricultural Products before taking up the post of country manager, Haiti Broilers SA, just after the devastating earthquake in 2010.
Since then that division has significantly grown under his leadership to become a market leader in the territory. Appointed as president of Haiti operations in 2016, he continued to guide the division on a path of sustainability and profitability. Haiti Broilers now produces live and processed chicken, feed and eggs.
Fairman is the holder of a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of the West Indies and a Master of Science in Software Engineering from a Canadian institution. He also serves as Trustee of the JBG Superannuation Fund.
