A ‘Nuclear Flight’ down the five straight
NUCLEAR Flight continued her trek towards establishing herself as a sprinter of significant note during a victory in Overnight Allowance company going five furlongs (1,000m) straight on Wednesday, November 21 at Caymanas Park.
Nuclear Flight, by Nuclear Wayne – City Flight, has definitely developed a special liking for the distance as she is now unbeaten in four starts running the five straight in her seven-race career.
Ridden by Dane Dawkins, Nuclear Flight won by 1 1/2 lengths beating Ras Emanuel (Aaron Chatrie) and Another Vigorous (Dane Nelson). After chopping splits of 22.2 and 44.3, Nuclear Flight clocked 57.2.
Trainer Gary Subratie then stated that after his charge’s next run in Open Allowance he would be better able to assess her true potential.
“Oh, excellent, it was an excellent performance by Nuclear Flight to get home in this Overnight Allowance event, the first time of asking. She is a really nice horse and she has been doing really well.
“ Nuclear Flight is getting better and better each time she races. She got a really nice break today (Wednesday) and I was really pleased with the finish. She is definitely a five-straight specialist and as long as she gets a good break in her races, I think she is going to be there all the time. She now moves up to the Open Allowance level and so, let’s see what she does,” Subratie offered.
It was a clear break for all runners, with Another Vigorous, Nuclear Flight and Ras Emanuel showing superior speed and Ice Cold (Dick Cardenas) just behind.
Coming across the dummy rails it looked like a three-horse race involving the leaders, but Nuclear Flight sprinted away from Ras Emanuel and Another Vigorous to register her fifth career win.
Like Subratie, Dawkins was also pleased with the effort by Nuclear Flight.
“She ( Nuclear Flight) is a very nice filly and she always gives her best whenever I have asked her. She is just coming on; she was having gate problems but we have figured it out and I got her to break well this time, so she is getting there. She has a lot more improvements to make,” Dawkins said.
