Greendale needs roads!
Dear Editor,
The pictures attached show the entrance to my community in Greendale, St Catherine, in the constituency of Member of Parliament (MP) Denise Daley.
I’m writing out of frustration because I’ve had to find alternative means of entering my community as these holes prevent me driving the usual route. And if this is the entrance, you can well imagine what the rest of the roads are like.
My MP has declared publicly that she does not like anything green, and I can only surmise that this is the cause of the neglect in Greendale. But enough is enough! As a tax-paying citizen, who just bought four tyres and who can feel my car vibrating again because the new tyres seem already bent from driving in potholes, I feel like bawling.
I live in constant jealousy of other areas where MPs actually work. Just a few kilometres away MP Olivia Grange has been on a paving spree. Then we have other MPs like Julian Robinson who recently launched a Tell Your MP app!
Greendale is a community made up of mostly retirees — decent citizens who pay their property taxes and keep their community’s clean. We have prompt garbage collection, street lighting, and it’s quiet, with low crime and a good place to raise a family. All would be well except for these pesky potholes.
Finance Minister Nigel Clarke recently alluded to roads being like ‘carpet’, but all we need is some marl or gravel in Greendale. We don’t need carpet, just something to actually drive on.
I don’t believe I’m asking for much. I’m pleading with MP Daley; if the “green” in the community name is a problem, you can rename it Orangedale or whatever.
Just please fix our roads.
Frustrated
