Punters have their Diamond Mile say and picks

The punters, who race day after race day, rain or shine, gather at Caymanas park or at the off-track betting parlours, get a chance in the Supreme Racing Guide to share their views and also to give their picks for this year’s Diamond Mile.

The Diamond Mile is a race that many racing punters, whether at the racetrack or at the betting shops, are always looking forward to. This race brings a lot of excitement and thing. Although the day is very long, it has always been an enjoyable one. Looking at the race this year, I think that the conditions suit the filly. I think that She’s A Maneater is going win the Diamond Mile for a second-straight year. She is a super filly; she is well conditioned and she will be well prepared again. Wayne DaCosta is going to win the Diamond Mile for the fourth-consecutive year.

LEROY PETERS

First of all, let me say that the Diamond Mile is a very wonderful race and it brings pure excitement every year. We as punters are always in anticipation whenever the Diamond Mile comes around, plus the race day is most enjoyable as well. For this year, I think that Will In Charge is going to turn the tables on She’s A Maneater. In the Superstakes, when Will In Charge lost to She’s A Maneater, I am of the position that the jockey (Robert Halledeen) gave away the race. In other words, if he (Halledeen) had gotten a good hold of his horse when coming off the turn and when he went left-handed the horse swerved to the right — and that’s how he lost. Will In Charge is the better horse and that’s why I am ‘bringing him’ to win the Diamond Mile this year. If the jockey (Halledeen) rides a better race, there is no doubt that Will In Charge is going to win.

DELROY STEPHENS

The Diamond Mile is the future of racing at Caymanas Park. This is the biggest race running at the track right now and everybody would like to see who is going to be the winner of the Diamond Mile. I do have the winner of the Diamond Mile this year. The winner of the race is none other than She’s A Maneater; she won’t get beaten in this race. She is the best horse in the country and she has been proving that many times. She is the super horse at the racetrack and I think that Wayne DaCosta has been doing very well with her.

PHILLIP ABRAHAM

The Diamond Mile is a race that I come to see each year since it started in 2015. It is the biggest race for the year and it has been a very good race to watch, as everyone wants to win this race. On this race day you get the most crowd that I see at the Park. I think that Will In Charge is going to win the race this year. Robert Halledeen made a slight mistake in the Superstakes that She’s A Maneater won, and I know that he will correct that and put the filly in her place this time around.

HAUGHTON VALENTINE

Since the Diamond Mile was first introduced in racing in 2015 it has been a very successful initiative for the organisers; people come out in their numbers to witness a truly magnificent race day. The Diamond Mile race day is the most lucrative in the English-speaking Caribbean, and with the purse for the Diamond Mile valued at US$115,000, that alone brings excitement to the races. This is a race day that everyone looks forward to, as it brings excitement with it. I was here for the previous three Diamond Mile races and it was truly great, and now I am most excited for the fourth staging. Looking at the runners for this year, I think that this will be the most competitive one compared to the others. She’s A Maneater is the defending champion and she will have a bullseye on her back. She is talented and, based on her Superstakes win, it is a signal that she is right back on top of her game and is one of the top contenders. Will In Charge has done everything right this season. Despite his loss to She’s A Maneater in the Superstakes, Will In Charge is as fit as hands can make him, and he will run a good race as well. Don’t rule out the chances of Bigdaddykool and Chace The Great as they both have the class and talent to win this race. However, I think the race is between She’s A Maneater and Will In Charge. The race can go either way and I am looking forward to another exciting finish. But if I have to pick one winner, I would say that the filly is going to win.

Well, the Diamond Mile is a very big race day that we as punters always look forward to, as we want to see our pick win. Every breeder, owner, trainer, jockey and groom want to win this race, and so that alone makes it very competitive. The horse that I like to win the race is Will In Charge. The other runners will have to come and catch him. He lost a race the other day which I thought he would have won but that’s the game of horseracing. This time around, I think it is smooth-sailing for him.
