YVAs calls time out
THE YVAs (Your View Awards) will not be held next year. According to organisers, An Elegant Affair, the task of producing the annual event has taken a toll on staff.
“The YVAs is something we hold very close to our hearts. It was not only for the entertainment but also for the culture. It was always with great enthusiasm and passion that we staged the YVAs each year to allow our very own creatives from the entertainment industry to be celebrated, not only by the fans who put them there, but also by their fellow industry colleagues,” Karen Clarke, CEO of An Elegant Affair, said in a statement to the Jamaica Observer.
The statement continued: “The level of production that the YVAs required, both mentally and physically, to bring it to life has taken a toll and has resulted in us taking a hiatus next year to refill our well and evaluate if we will go forward. We are beyond thankful for the journey, and are resting it at God’s feet that all things are in divine order! Love & Light.”
Formerly known as the Youth View Awards, the YVAs were first held on February 5, 2007 and took place every year since. The last staging was on February 24 at the National Indoor Sports Arena in Kingston.
Among the winners this year were Popcaan, Aidonia, Govana, Kevin Downswell, Alkaline, and Chronixx
Held to celebrate the achievements of entertainers the previous year, the YVA nominees and winners are chosen by public votes online.
Among its categories are Icon Award, Lifetime Achievement, Humanitarian, Song, Music Video, Dancing and Album of The Year.
