Olympic and World Championships gold medallist Veronica Campbell Brown is pregnant with her first child and has hinted that she could hang up her spikes, ending one of the most decorated careers in track and field.

The 36-year-old made the announcement on two social media platforms yesterday while posing for pictures with her husband, Omar, both dressed in white outfits.

“Our lives will soon change forever,” she said as she added “#BabyComingSoon.”

Campbell Brown, who did not run in the 2018 season, said: “We look forward to parenthood and all the joys and challenges that come with it. We pray for strength and wisdom to be the best parents possible.”

Campbell Brown, an eight-time Olympic Games medallist, is the second woman in history to win two consecutive Olympic 200m gold medals and she also won 11 World Championships medals in a glittering career after making the 2000 Olympic team as a schoolgirl at Vere Technical.

She cast doubt whether she would return to the track to add to her legacy saying in the social media post, “At this moment, I am uncertain if I will return to competition, as the main focus is to welcome our baby, and to provide the best environment filled with love, warmth and care.”

Veronica and Omar have been married since 2007 and now live in the Williamsburg, Virginia, in the United States area, where Omar has taken up a position as sprint and hurdles coach at the College of William and Mary.
