Reno, Tivoli in desperate bid for three points to boost play-off quest
FC RENO and Tivoli Gardens FC will both look to secure wins to kick-start their respective play-off quests when the two meet in the Red Stripe Premier League match at Frome Sports Complex today.
Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
Westmoreland-based Reno are 10th in the 12-team league standing with 22 points from 23 matches. They have won once in their last five outings, however, drawn results in their two most games breed a bit of hope.
The former champions are barely above the two relegation places, but a few favourable results could bring them right into the conversation for a top-six play-off spot. And at home — where they are usually hard to beat — is their best place to start.
Tivoli, also former national club title-holders, are much better off in their play-off bid, seventh with 31 points. But their form hasn’t been great, losing three of their last five.
They will harbour hopes, however, after beating Montego Bay United 2-1 last time out.
In a game of equal intrigue at Wespow Park in St James, struggling teams Montego Bay and Dunbeholden FC square off at 3:00 pm. Former RSPL winners Montego Bay have lost four of their last five and are last in the table on 19 points.
Promoted Dunbeholden are a place and a point above today’s opponents.
Also at 3:00 pm, league leaders and title-holders Portmore United (43 points) welcome ninth-placed Harbour View FC (24 points) to Spanish Town Prison Oval in St Catherine.
Portmore haven’t been at their best of late, but three wins out of five games have ensured they hang onto the top spot. Harbour View have endured inconsistent form, and have lost their previous two games.
In another game set to begin 3 o’ clock, University of the West Indies (UWI) FC host Humble Lion FC at Mona Bowl in St Andrew.
UWI are sixth with 33 points, while Humble Lion are eighth with 30 points.
At 7:00 pm, Waterhouse FC entertain Mount Pleasant FA at Waterhouse Stadium in St Andrew. Waterhouse are second with 41 points, while promoted Mount Pleasant are fifth with 34 points.
In tomorrow’s flagship RSPL Monday Night fixture at 8:35 pm Arnett Gardens FC tackle Cavalier FC at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex. Arnett are fourth with 34 points, just above Mount Pleasant due to a superior goal difference.
The youthful Cavalier side is third with 41 points, just behind Waterhouse due to an inferior goal difference.
