KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tensions ran high on Wednesday during the renewed debate on reform of the country’s abortion laws before the Human Resource and Physical Development Committee of Parliament, which heard submissions from two impassioned individuals.

In other news, global watchdog group, Transparency International on Tuesday released its latest rankings where Jamaica continues to rank among countries that fail to make serious inroads against corruption, scoring 44 out of 100 where zero is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean on the Corruption Perceptions Index 2018.

Meanwhile, Crime Stop Jamaica on Tuesday reported a 25 per cent increase in tips in 2018 when compared to 2017, with a total of $8,287,500 being paid out to informants.

And in sport, it was reported on Monday that Jamaica’s sprint legend and budding global business mogul, Usain Bolt, has partnered with leading South African champagne brand, G H Mumm to create the ‘ultimate celebrations champagne’, the Mumm Olympe Rosé, which was launched last Thursday at the Maslow Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa.
