Spalding bus driver suffered from mental stress, says JATOO
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO) is arguing that the bus driver who recently attacked a police man in Spalding, Clarendon did so as a result of mental stress.
“We would like to state without any fear of contradiction that any such attack on any person, especially in this case, an armed enforcement officer of the state is a sign of mental illness,” JATOO said in a release addressing the issue. The group argued that public transportation operators have had to face constant pressure by the authorities to include:
1) We have had our vehicles towed for minor infraction.
2) We are not given a list of offences that will result in your vehicle being “towed” by the state.
3) We have had excessive fines imposed on us.
4) We have had our businesses relegated to unprofitable areas, ie., allowing the JUTC to operate on special routes.
5) License fees are increased by over four hundred per cent with less than six months notice.
6) The sector is not provided with properly trained drivers.
7) We are promised revenue protection. It still remains a promise.
8) We were promised effective action against robot operators and extortionist.
This has become a joke by Transport Authority. “This bus operator in Spalding was arguing with the police officer about taking his bus for a minor infraction,” JATOO said, while admitting that the bus operator was wrong to attack the policeman.
