For his comeback show tomorrow at the National Stadium, Buju Banton has assembled a top-notch band of musicians, some of whom he has worked with in the past. Keyboardist Steven “Lenky” Marsden, musical director for the side, was a member of Buju’s Til Shiloh band for several years.

Experienced guitarist Mitchum “Khan” Chin, Kenroy Mullings (guitar), Courtney Sinclair (keyboards), Stephen DePass (bass), Keneil Delisser (drums), Robert Malcolm (percussions), Glen Browne (bass) and saxophonist Verlando Small complete the band. Harmony singers are Nicole Bolt, Carol Dexter and Adena Myrie, Buju’s sister.

Here is a look at some of their credentials.

Steven “Lenky” Marsden:

Started his career with bands on the North Coast, before joining established units like Lloyd Parks and We The People and the Bloodfire Posse. Marsden came into his own as a musician during the mid-1990s when he played on a number of dancehall hits such as Everyone Falls in Love by Tanto Metro and Devonte and Richie Stephens and Bounty Killer’s Maniac.

Late that decade, he joined Sly and Robbie’s Taxi Gang and has played on several of the legendary duo’s productions; he co-wrote eight of the 18 songs on Beenie Man’s Many Moods of Moses album.

As a producer, Marsden hit it big 16 years ago with the Diwali, a monster beat that drove massive songs like Sean Paul’s Get Busy, No Letting Go by Wayne Wonder and Sufferer by Bounty Killer. He has two albums to his credit; the second, Self Taught, was released last August.

Mitchum “Khan” Chin:

One of the busiest musicians in contemporary reggae, Chin has played on the biggest albums and songs by major artistes in the last 20 years. He was an original member of the Firehouse Crew, which recorded and toured with acts like Luciano and Sizzla during the 1990s.

Chin can be heard on Parables, Tarrus Riley’s 2006 breakthrough album; Jah is my Navigator, Luciano’s 2008 album; Lava Ground by I-Wayne and Serious by Gentleman. Chin has also shown his chops as an acoustic musician, playing on unplugged albums by Riley and Richie Spice.

His influences include Ernie Ranglin, Earl “Chinna” Smith and Eric Clapton.

Verlando Small:

Has developed into a solid musician since winning the Digicel Rising Stars competition in 2013. Small is a fixture on the live scene, playing everything from functions to weddings; he has also toured Europe and Africa with Marcia Griffiths, as well as toured with fellow Rising Stars winner Romain Virgo.

Small collaborates regularly with gospel artiste Jermaine Edwards. He played on the singer’s Don’t Count me Out and Dominion albums.
