KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Supreme Court has given the Firearms Licensing Authority (FLA) 45 days in which to return a licensed firearm which it had seized from Police Constable Sancho Summerville.

The authority seized the constable’s firearm on March 12, claiming it had detected adverse traces after the policemen went to renew his license.

However, Summerville’s attorney Hugh Wildman made an application in court on Monday for a judicial review to quash the FLA’s decision and also for the FLA to return his client’s firearm.

The attorney argued in court documents filed that the FLA was unable to provide further details on what it claimed were adverse trace.

After hearing the application, Justice Courtney Day made the order for the gun to be returned and granted the application for judicial review.

According to Wildman, the claim that has been made by FLA is believed to have been orchestrated by a superintendent who has personal feud with his client.
