All set!

Semi-finalists decided in JFF Western Confed

FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Hopewell United and Falmouth United completed the semi-final pairings in the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Charley’s JB Rum Super League on Sunday, following a goal-filled final set of matches in the third round.

In five of six games played on the weekend, 27 goals were scored, 22 coming on Saturday.

The crucial games were set for Sunday and Hopewell United came from a goal down to beat Sandals South Coast in a winner-take- all-game played at Orchard in Hopewell to finish third, while Falmouth United eased into the fourth spot with a 2-0 win over relegated former two-time champions Granville United at Elleston Wakeland Centre.

In the two-way semi-final set for April 21 and 28, newcomers Falmouth United will face regular season champions Faulkland FC in one game, while Hopewell United are to face defending champions Wadadah FC in the other, with the winners on aggregate advancing to the final.

Faulkland FC, who swamped Grand Palladium 7-0 on Saturday, topped the points table with 42 points, followed by Wadadah FC on 35, Hopewell FC on 31 and Falmouth United on 30.

Harmony FC, a semi-finalist last season, and Sandals South Coast, champions two years ago, secured their place in the league next season.

At Orchard on Sunday, Shivnarine Brown scored the winner for the home team after Dervin Campbell gave Sandals South Coast the lead in the 41st minute, and threatened to take the semi-final spot ahead of them with a win.

But, Michael McLeod pulled Hopewell United level in the 45th minute from the penalty spot before Brown scored the winner in the 65th minute.

At Elleston Wakeland, Allan Ottey and Ricardo James scored in the first-half as the home team cruised to an easy win.

Faulkland FC ended an unbeaten regular season in style with a 7-0 drubbing of Grand Palladium, with two goals each from Ewan Barton and Shannoy Anderson, after being up 2-0 at half-time.

Lucea United bowed out of the competition in a blaze of goals as well, with a 9-3 goal fest win over Delveland PYC. Andre Walcott led the way with a hat-trick, while Christopher Lawrence and Davison Myer got two each. Dadrian Davis scored two for the losers.

Wadadah FC went into the semi-finals on a winning note after beating Somerton FC 2-1 with second-half goals from Matthew Thorpe and Davarowe McKenzie, after Marvin Ellis had given Somerton FC the lead in the first half.
