Missing girl, 8, found dead
INVESTIGATORS probing the murder of the missing eight-year-old Shante Skyers say they have identified a suspect and are following several leads.
Shante, a student of Sterling Castle Heights, who went missing last Thursday, was yesterday found in Blue Hole, Sterling Castle Heights, St Andrew. Skyers disappeared after she reportedly left for school.
Her body was found amongst rubble by a search party led by officers from the St Andrew North Police Division.
The constabulary’s communication arm said since Shante’s disappearance last Thursday the police, relatives, and community members had been searching several sites in the community without success. However, efforts to find her intensified yesterday when the Caribbean Search Centre, the Canine Division and the Jamaica Defence Force joined the effort.
In the meantime, the police said that as the investigation now transitions into a murder probe, personnel from the Community Safety and Security Branch— who had been giving support to the family since the child’s disappearance — have been joined by the Victim Support Unit to deliver a new phase of intervention to those affected.
