Samuda visits St Richards Primary School to offer ‘PEP encouragement’
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Education, Youth and Information Karl Samuda will this morning visit the St Richards Primary School on Red Hills Road in St Andrew, “to offer words of encouragement” as pupils sit the final component of this year’s Primary Exit Profile (PEP), the curriculum based test.
Yesterday, students across the island responded to tests in both Language Arts and Science, the ministry said in an advisory.
Today, the first session will see the administration of Mathematics to be followed by Social Studies. Each exam will last for one hour and 30 minutes.
The ministry said it wants to assure all stakeholders that the necessary provisions have been made for an efficient and smooth running of these activities.
Students with special needs will receive relevant support, the ministry added.
More than 40,000 students are registered to sit the PEP exams, which replaced the Grade Six Achievement Test as the national secondary school entrance examination.
PEP is intended to provide a better and more complete profile of students’ academic and critical thinking capabilities at the end of primary level education.
