1. JUTC bus crashes into overturned truck

The driver of a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus escaped serious injuries this morning after crashing into an overturned trailer truck on the Golden Spring main road in northern St Andrew.The truck driver was unhurt. 

2. Agriculture minister targets women and youth

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Audley Shaw, says he is ensuring that at least 30 per cent of participants in the agriculture and entrepreneurship programmes under his portfolio are women and young people.

3. JCF plans meeting in Sterling Castle after murder of Shantae Skyers

The police will be meeting with residents of Sterling Castle, St Andrew to address issues affecting the community following last week’s murder of eight-year-old Shantae Skyers. 

4. 2-y-o girl killed in St James hit and run

Detectives assigned to the St James Police Division are probing the circumstances surrounding the death of a two-year-old girl and the injury of another child on the Howard Cooke Highway in Montego Bay in the parish on Tuesday, April 23.

5. Police impose curfew in Denham Town

A curfew has been imposed in sections of the Denham Town Police Division.The curfew began at 6:00 pm on yesterday and will remain in effect until 6:00 pm on Friday. 

6. No screen time for babies; only 1 hour for kids under 5 — UN

The World Health Organization has issued it’s first-ever guidance for how much screen time children under five years old should get: not very much, and none at all for those under 1.

7. Russell named in World Cup squad

Dynamic all-rounder Andre Russell has been named in West Indies’ 15-man World Cup squad, selectors announced here Wednesday.

9. Son of J’can immigrants jailed for life for sexually assaulting, murdering NY woman

A New York judge has sentenced a 22-year-old Jamaican American youth to life imprisonment without parole after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting and murdering a woman in Queens three years ago.

10. Cannabis authority approves 11 more licences 

The Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) has approved an additional 11 applications for licences in the medical cannabis industry.
