David Hall re-elected as IIA Caribbean district representative
Jamaican David Hall was re-elected as the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Caribbean district representative (West) on Monday, April 29, 2019.
Hall is the first Jamaican to be elected to the post of district representative in its revised format, for Caribbean East and West.
He has been a member of the IIA for over a decade and was president of its Jamaica chapter for two consecutive two-year terms, ending in 2015. During that time, he achieved a number of successes, namely largest chapter in the Caribbean, chapter of excellence, and gold chapter.
He also hosted training seminars for boards and audit committees and established the first student chapter at The University of the West Indies, which was acknowledged in 2014 amongst all worldwide chapters for its effort in promoting Internal Audit Awareness Month.
As district representative for the Caribbean, Hall is a member of the Chapter Relations Committee (CRC), which reports to the North American Board.
The IIA is an international professional association with global headquarters in Lake Mary, Florida, USA. It is the internal audit profession’s global voice, recognised authority, acknowledged leader, chief advocate, and principal educator. Generally, members work in internal auditing, risk management, governance, internal control, information technology audit, education, and security.
Globally, the IIA has more than 185,000 members. There are 160 chapters serving more than 70,000 members in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Bermuda, and Guyana. Members enjoy benefits offered by the North American Service Centre including local, national, and global professional networking; world-class training; certification standards and guidance; research; executive development; and career opportunities.
IIA chapters operate under the governance of the CRC, which is a committee of the North American Board. Chapters are assigned to a district within a designated region. There are three to seven chapters in each district that report to a district representative, who mentors chapter leaders and supports and promotes chapter programmes and activities.
Hall has a wealth of experience and knowledge, which he gained both locally and internationally over the past 25 years working in the auditing, operations, finance, and information technology sectors. He is a subject matter expert on enterprise risk management, corporate governance, information technology, finance and operational auditing, IT risks, IT governance, cybersecurity, telecommunications, business process re-engineering, and business continuity planning.
He has worked as chief audit executive with three of the largest companies in the Caribbean — reporting billion-dollar revenue andcovering over 30 countries worldwide, including their Latin American operations. He is currently managing director of DC Consultants & Associates, which provides internal audit, risk management, corporate governance, and IT services to companies in the public and private sectors.
Hall is immediate past president of C&WJ Credit Union, where he achieved numerous industry records leading to the credit union’s assets moving to over $8 billion and resulting in C&WJ being listed as the third-largest credit union in Jamaica.
He serves on a number of boards and committees, including the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica and Jamaica Stock Exchange governance committees.
He is a certified information security manager, certified information systems auditor, and is certified in the governance of enterprise IT.
