Changes at Mona Rehab as Surgix takes charge
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Surgix Jamaica Limited says it is now responsible for all prostheses manufactured at the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre in Kingston.
The company said that now that it is responsible for the operations of the prosthetic workshop and limb replacement facility, patients will be able to access services almost daily, as well as a wider variety of cutting-edge prostheses.
“This will be in addition to the once monthly traditional limb clinic conducted by the South East Regional Health Authority and the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre. What this means is that patients who require prosthetic treatment and care now have greater access to the required services,” said Winfield Boban, managing director of Surgix Jamaica Limited in a statement.
Boban said the current employees will be absorbed and trained by Surgix in new techniques and products.
Formerly the Mona Rehabilitation Centre, Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre is touted as the only integrated treatment and rehabilitation facility for the physically disabled in the English-speaking Caribbean.
Prosthetics and orthotics manufacturing is just one of the services offered at the rehab centre. Boban said, besides the above-knee and below-knee prostheses it currently provides, under Surgix Jamaica’s leadership, upper limb prostheses will also be available to clients.
“Our mission is to be the go-to provider for affordable health care solutions, quality and innovative products, as well as reliable surgical services. Now that we have assumed the responsibilities for the Mona Rehab Clinic, we are essentially responsible for all the prostheses produced in the country,” said Boban.
The managing director said over the last four years, Surgix has been focused on bringing affordable prosthetic solutions to clients, most of whom accessed its services through the private health care system.
