ROSE HALL, St James — This year’s staging of the third BMW Jamaica Classic PGA LatinoAmerica event at Cinnamon Hill Course in Rose Hall, St James, topped the previous two stagings in more ways than one, according to a senior tour official.

Claudio Rivas, the tournament manager in charge of administration, told the Jamaica Observer that last weekend’s event surpassed the others and while it was not his decision on whether to extend it past the three years of the first contract, he hoped that they would return next year.

“Of course it is not my decision (whether the event returns) but I hope it does,” he said.

American Evan Harmeling won the event, shooting a 21 under par 267 score over the four rounds to beat Argentina’s Augusto Nunez in a gripping final day on Sunday, the third American to win the event.

“Everything this year was better… that is the idea, that every year things will keep getting better. The golf course this year is in very good shape and the players this year were also much better and that is the idea that every year things gets better and that is good for the tour,” said Rivas.

Last year there were concerns that the green were not as firm as they would have liked, but Rivas said all of that was fixed this year. “That is what we want to see, when we get good players and they get great conditions, the event can only be better,” he ended.
