Pamputtae eyes the next level
Dancehal L diva Pamputtae is making a number of changes to her music, appearance and lifestyle. She hopes it will take her career to the next level.
The deejay became popular through the 2006 Tony Matterhorn song, Goodas Fi Dem. Dancehall fans warmed to her powerful sound, edgy lyrics and fashion flair.
But recently, Pamputtae has been through a metamorphosis. Shifting the focus from hardcore dancehall to a more subdued sound, occasionally opting for subtle hairstyles and outfits and maintaining a healthier lifestyle. She says it was time for a change.
“I am definitely rebranding and evolving into a more mature person,” she said. “You can’t always be on one level, my life is destined for greatness, hence I have to be growing with the change of time. I’m just trying to stay healthy, eat right and stay out of the mix.”
Over the years, fans have grown to appreciate her songs such as Slim vs Fluffy, Sticky Wine and Bad ‘Wuk’. Supporters can expect more as she has not completely abandoned racy lyrics.
“It’s not that I’ve abandoned raunchy dancehall, I’ve just toned it down,” Pamputtae told the Jamaica Observer’s Splash. “I’m trying to send positive messages to empower and uplift persons, my fans come first and they love the variety of music I make — soca, dancehall and reggae.”
Keeping with the development of her career, Pamputtae (given name Eveana Henry) recently launched her Single Mothers’ Foundation which is geared towards providing aid and mentorship for mothers who fend for themselves, and single parents.
“I see so many single parents’ struggles, including myself. This was a move from my heart, to try and assist others. Persons reach out to me daily with their stories, so I partnered with Alicia-Ann Roxborough, CEO of Semma Entertainment and Pop Up Events Jamaica, in making it happen,” she said.
The Foundation officially launched on May 11. Fellow entertainers Spice, Alaine, Shauna Chin, Raine Seville, Abby Dallas supported the initiative.
This is not the only project the 33-year-old artiste has in store. Her Foundation also plans to release a documentary titled A Single Mother’s Story, produced by Semma Entertainment.
“We start shooting in a few weeks when I get back from Canada,” she expressed. “We have not finalised the exact date but it will be released in early June. It will be aired on TV, you can see the press for more details.”
Pamputtae is set to host a back-to-school drive to raise more donations for her charity. She has teamed up with Honey Beauty Jamaica, Pop Up Events Jamaica and Sankofa Lounge to host the event in Toronto, Canada on August 2.
