Bahamian singer Tebby wins wins NBC’s Songland

Tebby Burrows, a singer and songwriter from Nassau, The Bahamas is the first winner of NBC’s Songland which aired last Tuesday.

Songland gives undiscovered songwriters a platform to pitch original creations to top recording artistes and producers. Their song may be the artiste’s next big hit.

We Need Love written by Tebby, was chosen as the winning song on the series premiere. John Legend recorded it.

In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, Tebby spoke about her accomplishment.

“First of all it feels amazing to be on NBC’s Songland with other talented artistes and songwriters and then to write a song that John Legend records is a dream come true,” she said. “I am a songwriter and artiste so when I heard about the show, I just knew I wanted to submit something. My best friend has a saying, ‘What’ve you got to lose?’ so I took a chance and I am here!”

In January, Tebby released the EP, Love Is The Remedy, a five-song project that features production by Grammy-winning producers Cool & Dre and C-Ray.

She has dabbled with reggae, recording the song Injustice in 2016 with Busy Signal. It was co-produced by Streamin Hub Inc/FM Records.

“Reggae is part of my life, that’s all I listened to in The Bahamas. I always loved music but I had an eclectic taste for old school music. I loved storytelling and using music to express myself,” she said.

“A producer from Jamaica named Jamar sent me a message that he had a track that would fit my voice and then he sent the track. It was pretty cool,” Tebby recalled.

Feel Alright and Medicine (featuring R&B singer Jeremih) are two of her recent releases.
