Former JDF officer, David Cummings, heads Sygnus Group, Real Estate and Project Finance subsidiary
Former deputy chief of defence staff for the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), Brigadier David Cummings, has joined the Sygnus team as the new head of the company’s Real Estate and Project Finance subsidiary, Sygnus Real Estate Finance Ltd (SRF).
According to a release from the company, Brigadier Cummings brings to the organisation an unmatched depth of experience and expertise in project management, negotiation, risk management, finance, and logistics.
Prior to joining Sygnus, Cummings served with the JDF for over 32 years where he held progressive leadership roles, including Colonel General Staff and Colonel Adjutant Quartermaster, and just before his retirement, he was the army’s deputy chief. During his tenure in the JDF, Cummings created and successfully implemented projects valued at over US$200 million spanning construction, infrastructure, maritime, information systems, and aviation.
As to academic achievements, Cummings holds a Bachelor of Engineering, a Master of Military Arts & Sciences and a Master of Business Administration from Cranfield University as a British Government Chevening Scholar.
The release further informed that as head of Real Estate and Project Finance, Cummings is expected to provide leadership and project management of Sygnus Real Estate Finance that brings flexible capital to monetise and unlock value in real estate assets across the region. SRF, which is not a REIT, will focus on using creative financing and investing strategies in commercial, residential, and industrial real estate opportunities to generate attractive returns for investors.
