Congrats, girl!
Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson (right) congratulates 17-year-old Briana Williams after the latter became the first Jamaican teenager to break the 11-second barrier for the women’s 100 metres during the recent JAAA Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships at the National Stadium.
Thompson, a native of Banana Ground in Manchester, was herself in spanking form, winning both the 100m and 200m in fabulous fashion.
Thomspon first took the 100m title in a world-leading 10.73 seconds just ahead of an impressive Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who also stopped the clock at 10.73 seconds.
Thompson returned two nights later to capture the 200m race in 22 seconds — also a world-leading time. Fraser-Pryce was second in 22.22 and Schillonie Calvert-Powell third in 22.92.
